My Story

ORIGIN

James Wong

I started dancing because I didn't know how else to say what I felt. Years later, that's still why I'm here — and it's why I built ESSENTIA.

I'm James Wong — a freelance contemporary dance instructor, movement artist, and personal trainer based in Singapore. I teach because I believe movement is one of the most honest things a person can do. And I want to help you find yours.

My journey began at Ngee Ann Polytechnic training in Hip Hop, B-Boy, Contemporary, Pas De Deux, and Acro Yoga. What started as love for dance grew into a deeper pursuit — understanding the body, the craft, and how movement transforms people from the inside out.

Dance and fitness are more than what I do — they are who I am. Movement is my language, strength is my foundation, and freedom is my art.

I train and perform with The Human Expression (T.H.E.) — Second Company, and have taught at Dance La Vie Studio and SPACECUBOID Gym Studio. I'm a certified NCSF Personal Trainer, Animal Flow® Instructor (L1), and 200-Hour Yoga Instructor.

My Saturday classes at ESSENTIA are designed as a space to explore contemporary dance in depth — not just to learn steps, but to genuinely grow, challenge yourself, and find your own expression. Every format is rooted in contemporary movement and shaped by somatic awareness, body conditioning, and a lot of heart.

I also offer 1:1 personal training — whether your goal is fitness, strength, conditioning, or dance. Tailored entirely to you, your pace, your goals.

I document everything through my Telegram group — updates, announcements, and behind-the-scenes. On Instagram (@piecesofjamse) I share content I genuinely hope resonates with you. Whatever I create, I hope it lets you know that I am here — with you, for you. YouTube channel coming soon.

Classes & Booking

WEEKLY
SCHEDULE

Every Saturday is a full day of movement — four distinct class formats from 1pm to 6:45pm. Come for one slot or stay for the whole day. All levels welcome, no experience needed.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Do I need dance experience?

No formal experience needed, but an open mind and willingness to learn goes a long way. Most classes are Level 1 and beginner-friendly. FLUX-sentia draws from all three formats so having tried one other class first helps. Come curious, stay open — that's all we ask.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothes you can move freely in. We go to the floor in some classes, so long pants or tights are recommended. No shoes — we move barefoot.

How do I book?

Can I try just one class?

Absolutely — drop in for $25, no commitment. Everyone starts somewhere, and all our classes are adult-friendly. Come see how it feels.
